Held only once a year, the World’s Longest Yard Sale runs for 630 miles along Rt. #127 from Defiance, Ohio south to Gadsden, Alabama. This four day event is a yard sale enthusiasts dream! Complete with tee shirts and other souvenirs this is an event that no “dyed in the wool” shopper should miss. This year the event will be held August 7 – 10 and will include every item know to man and some real surprises. Bring your walking shoes, camera and lots of cash. Jamestown, Tennessee is the home to all of this fun. Stop in and see “Ye Old Jail” (home to the Fentress County Chamber of Commerce) which is appropriately located across from the courthouse in downtown Jamestown. They can help answer your questions and guide you along the way. Do stop and see the Big South Fork National River and Recreational Area. It is the USA’s newest National Park and has 120,000 acres of wilderness for you to explore. You can camp, fish, hunt, hike, or go horse back riding. Sergeant Alvin C. York was the most decorated American in WW I and you can see his Grist Mill and home while you are in the area. Learn about grist milling and life at the beginning of the 20th century while you gain a knowledge about this remarkable American Hero. Pickett State Park has some of the most remarkable rock formations, bridges and arches you will ever see east of the Mississippi River, Cabins and chalets are available for rent. Be sure to see Lookout Mountain while you are “in the neighborhood”. If you can’t attend be sure to watch on HGTV! Plan ahead for next year’s event which will be held August 6 – 9, 2009.
