Global Volunteers –

            Founded in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains in 1984, by Michele Gran and Bud Philbrook, Global volunteers have grown to serving in over 100 communities world wide. Offering short term volunteer vacations in all parts of the world, Global Volunteers was the first to be granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations.  Their community development activities have had long term results.

Habitat for Humanity International –

            The concept of a volunteer organization, dedicated to bringing quality shelter to the poor struggling peoples of the world, was the brain child of former President Jimmy Carter.             WWOOF publishes a list of organic farms and gardens. The volunteer contacts the host directly and usually lives with the host family free of charge. World Teach –

            While a bachelor’s degree is needed for the year long programs with World Teach, the summer programs do not require a college degree, but you must be 18 years or older. Most who volunteer teach English. While you do not have to be a US citizen, this program is open to native speakers of English only.

Project Hope –

            Since 1958 Project HOPE has worked to make health care available to all people around the world. It is especially targeted toward children and women. The program works with the United States Navy. Projects will involve work on The USNS Comfort and USS Peleliu.  Project HOPE has expanded to include three volunteer programs.
